Cape Clogs founder Pam Irving with Gayle King
Cape Clogs fans may remember that Gayle King, Oprah’s best friend and editor of O, The Oprah Magazine, is also a huge fan. In fact, our clogs have been featured in the magazine in the past as one of her favorite things!!!!
Earlier this month, we received the following exciting email request from the magazine’s accessories editor:
“I am reaching out on behalf of the magazine in regards to a SURPRISE party we are throwing for Gayle King’s 60th birthday on December 16. As you know Gayle (and the magazine!) is a huge fan of Cape Clogs, and we are hoping to have all her favorite things at the party….
Would you be open to dressing and gifting clogs to our staff? We thought it would be a fun idea for everyone to wear Gayle’s signature footwear at the surprise.
Because Oprah will be at the party, the event will be filmed and pitched to media outlets, so there is potential Cape Clogs will be featured on television.”
Honored to be offered the opportunity, we agreed. The clogs needed to be shipped to New York by the following week, so we asked the accessories editor to gather all the staff’s sizes.
We ended up shipping a mix of prints and solids from among the following styles: Allium, Red Highland, Red and Green Scottish Tartans, Burgundy, Waterlily, and Rosette. In total, we gifted 75 pairs of both men’s and women’s clogs.
Gayle particularly loves the florals and plaids!
The party was held yesterday, so we don’t have any images of Gayle or Oprah with the clogs yet. If we get some, we will share them!
